Zero Carbon Eco-Homes in UK

Our latest development project is something very innovative in the UK and is almost certainly one of the first of its kind. At Manley Farm we are going to build 7 barn conversions and one brand new house and they are all going to be Zero Carbon ! A cold day on site at Manley

Today we had a site meeting at Manley Farm,Becca, Jonathan Rhind, Julian Brooks and I. I have had to write my notes up at home as it was so cold I lost the use of my hands!!

What we were trying to decide was how we go forward with the sustainable part of this build. This is a new area for us as a company.

The architects draw up the plans and then we have to get building regulation drawings, this involves deciding what materials to use to produce desired effects on insulation etc.

Julian Brooks is an expert on these matters, or so he assures me.

We discussed sustainable technology to be included on the site – wind turbines, do we need 2 or 3? Wood pellet boiler – where do we get pellets from? are there any grants available?

Quite often we get side tracked and have to get back to the task in hand, its hard going but towards the end of the meeting we decided who has to do what so the process can go forward. There are more acronyms (letter combinations) than I have ever heard of before – Julian is very good at slotting these in to the conversation, most of which I have not heard of yet, but learning fast.

This is going to be exciting and I look forward to us making progress.
